Bhakimli (Nepali भकिम्ली; also spelled Bhakilmi) is a village in Beni Municipality-3 of Myagdi district, set in the hills above the district town of Beni. It is home to Chhantyal and Magar families.
Earlier drafts of this site listed the village as “Makilmi” — a garbling of the name. The correct form is Bhakimli / Bhakilmi.
Trace-back
Bhakimli belongs to the eastern Myagdi country where the Chhantyal worked the copper — the calling that gave the people their reputation as miners across the Dhaulagiri hills. Local accounts still recall families drawing copper from the mines around the village.
What people do
At the 1991 census Bhakimli had about 3,132 people in 599 households. Life today rests on farming and animal husbandry, with the old mining now a memory, and — as across Myagdi — many families supported by work abroad. In recent years the area above the village (Beldhunga) has drawn visitors, and Bhakimli has become known for kiwi farming.
