Damek is a large former village development committee in Baglung district — by some accounts the largest VDC in Baglung — named by the Nepal Chhantyal Sangh among the district’s Chhantyal settlements, where Chhantyal families live within a much wider population.
Trace-back
Damek lies in the Baglung homeland that, with Myagdi, has always held most of the Chhantyal people. Its Chhantyal families share the community’s deep roots in copper mining and hill farming across the Dhaulagiri country.
At the time of the 1991 census
Damek recorded 5,824 people in 1,072 houses — one of the most populous units in the whole district, a reminder that it is a large mixed settlement rather than a single-community village.
What people do
Life rests on farming the terraced slopes, livestock, and income from family working abroad.
