Devisthan is a large former village development committee in Baglung district, named by the Nepal Chhantyal Sangh among the district’s Chhantyal settlements — one of several Baglung villages where Chhantyal families live within a wider community.

Trace-back

Devisthan lies in the Baglung homeland of the Chhantyal, sharing the community’s long history of copper mining and farming on the Dhaulagiri foothills. Its name — “the place of the goddess” — points to a local shrine, as so often in these hills.

At the time of the 1991 census

Devisthan recorded 6,151 people in 1,247 houses — among the most populous units of the district, its Chhantyal families part of a much larger settlement.

What people do

Life rests on farming the slopes, livestock, and income from family working abroad.
