Representative image of the region — not this specific village.

Khungkhani is a village in Baglung district, now part of Nisikhola Rural Municipality, where Chhantyal, Dalit and Magar communities live side by side — one of the recorded Chhantyal settlements of the district.

Trace-back

Its “-khani” name marks it as a mine village, born of the copper that the Chhantyal worked across Baglung and Myagdi. Here that heritage is shared with Magar neighbours, who also have deep roots in the region’s mining and farming.

At the time of the 1991 census

Khungkhani recorded 1,908 people in 397 houses, shared among its Chhantyal, Dalit and Magar families.
