Lekhani is a village in Kathekhola Rural Municipality–8 of Baglung, set in the southern Dhaulagiri hills. The Nepal Chhantyal Sangh names it among the district’s Chhantyal “khani” (mine) villages.

Trace-back

Its name ends in “-khani”“mine” — placing Lekhani among the copper settlements of the Baglung country, where the Chhantyal practised the mining craft that became their hallmark across the Dhaulagiri region.

At the time of the 1991 census

Lekhani recorded 2,431 people in 507 houses — a sizeable hill village, its Chhantyal families among a wider community.

What people do

Life rests on farming the terraced slopes, livestock, and income from family working abroad, the old mining now part of the village’s memory.
