Representative image of the region — not this specific village.

Machhim lies in Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality–7 of Myagdi, one of the villages of the municipality home to the Chhantyal people.

Trace-back

Copper runs through Machhim’s story as it does the whole community’s. Six mine sites on the slopes near the village lay closed for about five decades until MS Dongyi Minerals, approved by the Department of Mines and Geology, restarted exploration; a team of geologists came to gauge the ore, and an access road was cut through to Muna, the municipal headquarters. The study lifted real hope among residents, for whom mining is an ancestral craft — though one local, Kulbahadur Chhantyal, has urged caution against environmental harm and asked that those affected be first in line for any work.

What people do

Like its neighbours, Machhim lives by farming and livestock, with many households supported by work abroad. Specific population figures are not yet recorded here.
